My current work is an exploration of modern day black womanhood and is fueled by my personal experiences in addition to the experiences of black women in my community.
I’m super inspired by fashion photography, architecture and textiles. My paintings are based on collages that I make using images of black women combined with surreal abstract borders in an effort to give each painting a day-dreamy feel.
I make this work because it was what I wanted to see more of in the world, which was to see black women as the subject matter in art that wasn’t sexualized, political or in association with hardship.
I just want to make work that simply shows black women in moments of peace…simply just, being.
